This small wooden cased surgical set is by MILLIKIN & LAWLEY based London at 165 Strand Street in the year 1860 [See Elisabeth Bennion’s Antique Medical Instruments p.326].

The set is complete and in excellent condition. It likely served as a pocket or traveling surgical set.

The presence of ebony handled scalpels and some steel scalpels reflect that it was created before aseptic surgical technique was fully accepted but becoming of increased widespread knowledge.
