ANTIQUE WHITE PORCELAIN MEDICAL LEECH JAR CIRCA MID TO LATE 1800S
[lightslider_looper]

The antique white porcelain leech jar likely dates to the mid to late 1800s. Note the lovely ornate porcelain handles for the jar.

Many leech jars were made ornate in the 19th century as leeches were sold to doctors for their medical practice and items displayed nicely tend to sell, still true today.

The jar measures approximately 10 inches high and I believe the lid may not be original although it does fit the jar perfectly and have tiny holes typical for a leech jar as the leeches would need oxygen and aeration to breathe.
