A heavy silver mounted shagreen surgical instrument case dating to circa 1720. A very similar piece is seen on colour plate 11 of Elizabeth Bennnion’s “Antique Medical Instruments”.
Multiple instruments contained in this case include a miniature ivory maginfying glass, probes, curettes, and others used for treating wounds.
